So you want to RP on Dreamwidth...
Tutorial below the cut!">Hi! I'm Dorked, and if you're reading this, chances are, you want to RP on Dreamwidth and are not used to the format. In this post, I'll be going over some basics just to make things a teensy bit easier.
When you go to Dreamwidth.org, you start by creating a Free Account...

To start, you'll want to pick a username. This will be the account for your character, so it can be a pun, something relevant to the character in some other symbolic way, etc.
For your email address, I highly recommend using a format such as...
emailaddress+word@gmail.com, as this will allow you to do something neat with email filters.
For instance, I might make a Sho Minazuki account's email...
megaflamehedge+sho@gmail.com
The emails would direct to the same gmail, but can then be used for some fun filtering. To give an example...
You would go to your labels in gmail...

Hit the + sign to make a new label, put the character name and pick a color...

You would add a new filter like so... and then it'll ask you to pick a label. This can be great for organizing your RP notifications.

Like this!
When you have your password, username, and everything setup, you can then fill out your profile...

Which can let you put the character's name...

And any useful information you may want on the profile. Images, memes, etc are also chill.

Icons are a neat way to personalize the RP experience. A free DW account can have up to 15 icons, which can be set up to give you the option of different character expressions to accompany your posts and comments.
When you go to make a post or a comment, you will have a dropdown that will allow you to select the icon of your choice. It's pretty handy!
If you want to know where to find icons, there are a lot of resources out there on both DW and tumblr. Here are a few options to get started...
Tanabata's Persona Icons
Byob's Persona 5 icons
Persona on DWRP Icons
Yevon's Persona 5 icons
Or if you want to make them yourself, places like Spriter's Resource are a great... well, resource.
As a rule of thumb, DW icons are 100x100 pixels in size.
RP on dreamwidth is carried out through posts and comments! Here is what it looks like to make a post.

Essentially, you write your entry, select the RP community, and add an appropriate tag for your respective character. You can find various examples of posts at
personavelvetroomdr.
Once you have a post, people will reply to it in comments...

You can also leave comments on other people's posts!
DWRP is carried out in threads. Here is an example.

In general, you want to be polite and not jump into other people's ongoing threads without consent. On mingle posts, there will be a main set of prompts made by the OP, and then individual RPers can leave their own "toplevel" comments that others can reply to. Here's an example.

As you can see, I chose to reply to a specific prompt, so I put that in the subject line of my comment! You can also use subject lines to indicate if a comment or post is closed to specific characters.
LJ juggler is an amazing browser addon that you can use to jump easily between RP accounts. You can find it here for Firefox and here for Chrome.
Here is what it looks like:

From here, you go to manage accounts...

And fill out your information.
For Firefox, you may have difficulty logging into accounts with just your username, but have no fear! There is a very easy workaround. What you have to do is go to Account Settings -> Mobile -> Create new API key, and you can copy the resulting API key into the password field when you add your account.

Like so!
With that, you should be all set to go and begin your DW RP experience!
