Introduction:

This is a callout post for Lacan Shinn, otherwise known as Paul and Lacan Valeth on other platforms. If you haven’t heard of him, it’s because he mostly hangs around Fanfiction.net, where he’s prone to review bombing, PM spam, and endless bullying, harassment, and guilting. He is known to target Kingdom Hearts authors in particular (especially female ones). He also has been banned from KHInsider and Gamefaqs. Before you proceed, here are some obligatory content warnings: bullying, abuse, graphic suicide ideation, stalking, aphobia, homophobia

This document does delve into some personal information- but it is nothing that Paul hasn’t bombarded on reviews pages, forums, and in the PMs of multiple relative strangers. It is being included here because he often used this information to hurt and harm others through gaslighting and manipulation, and so we’re sharing it to expose the harmful ways he uses others’ names and histories as ammo. I will note, however, that he sent many more detailed messages about his personal life that I have left out. I have also refrained from listing any specific identifiers such as full name and exact age.

We also have a supplementary document here, provided AkaiKitsune with permission of Rem, who is a name you will see pop up a LOT during this document. Despite what Paul will say, we are not cyberbullying Rem and, in fact, are in full support of her and just want her to be safe. We have since received testimony from Rem as well.

Many of these alts are from 2002, which suggests to me that he’s been at this kind of toxic behavior for even longer than we realized. A huge thanks to one of his victims for pointing these out to me.

With that out of the way, the full depth of this callout will be covered below.

However, I will note: This is NOT an invitation to engage with Paul. We seek to warn, we seek to inform, and we seek to get the word out so others don’t get harassed and hurt. But that’s it. Please do not use this information to antagonize or dox.

UPDATE 2: Paul has reported this document. If the worst comes to pass, we have made a backup. Dorked has also saved a copy on her hard drive. Paul, if you’re reading this, maybe consider how your actions have harmed others. Consider WHY so many people have spoken against you.

With that being said, let’s begin...

Dorked’s Testimony:

My history with Lacan Shinn about a year ago, when he PMed me with an interest in talking to another Kingdom Hearts fan. At the time, I thought nothing of it. He seemed… pleasant enough.

Taken on its own, there’s no real red flags to speak of. So I responded, and then...

He was a bit verbose but seemed interested enough, so I just kept in contact for a while, not realizing what I was in for...

The early red flags were relatively small. He’d nitpick my chapters and try to nudge me to change things. He once went off on me because he acted as though my take on Kairi was too positive/encouraging without much depth or conflict... when he’d only read parts of the series and not all of it, but when I pointed out he was missing certain details or cues, it ended amicably enough. I’d get frustrated, but overall it wasn’t enough for me to want to block him.

But eventually... well...

He’d start spamming my inbox and each of these messages would be EXTREMELY long and delve into personal details like his abusive homelife and online friends I didn’t even know, and he’d act with the assumption that I’d read all his tl;dr vents when I’m a busy person with multiple projects, an offline job, and other obligations to juggle.

To top it all off, he’d make extremely bad faith criticisms, like this...

Keep in mind, he hadn’t even seen Frozen, and yet he took me writing Anna as a character who is capable of a wide range of emotions, who was a BIT nervous about ascending a staircase over an active volcano and having to push through that initial fear as... an insulting depiction of her character. It was around this time I started to get uncomfortable with him, as I looked back at how severely he reacted to certain aspects of my stories, demanding changes.

And then... the review bomb happened.

In short, he’d start spamming my reviews page. If you want a full timeline of his descent into madness, my friend SKL has compiled his reviews in chronological order here. But here are just some examples, starting innocent enough but getting worse and worse.

Some of it was actually relevant to the story... to a degree...

And then he’d start posting random song lyrics?

And repost those same lyrics because of a typo... even though it wasn’t even relevant to my fic.

And then he started going off on weird tangents about Sora and Anna’s bond in KH3 and speculation about the future of the KH series, and then obsessing over Sora and Anna in KH3...

And then he. Would just spam my reviews with observations from KH3...

This entire “review” (there’s more besides what’s in the screencap), is almost 3000 words. That’s about the average length of a fanfiction chapter.

And that same day, he posted another...

And another... (This one is 3.4k words, meaning it takes up a LOT of page space for something unrelated to my fic). And then he quoted another song, then a bunch of quotes from anime... you can see it all on the page I linked up above, but on September 22nd alone, he left about twelve “reviews”. I was starting to get pretty frustrated as I wanted ACTUAL reviews, not unrelated ramblings about how Anna is “obviously” in love with Sora in KH3 and unrelated song lyrics and quotes meant to “inspire” me.

(Disclaimer: Crack ships are fine and cool- my problem is with the Sora and Anna thing how aggressive he got about it, which can be seen especially in the KHInsider threads later in this document.)

And then he left this long ass review saying I should give up on RiKai and have Riku get with Elsa romantically because of ~noble sacrifice~ and being a ~true friend~. It was at this point, tired of his endless waves of messaging and spam, that I decided enough was enough. So I went to message him, and around that time, this happened.

So, first of all, he’s attacking me and making bad faith assumptions... because I had Riku be slightly flustered around an attractive woman. He wasn’t even interested. He was just a bit awkward. Here is the bit that got him so angry:

"So, why wait? It's obvious that hothead's up to something, and with those oversized skeleton keys, you've got the best chance at prying into all his little… secrets." Her words carried a sultry tone that sent shivers down Riku's spine. Ah, the woes of being a teenager.

Aqua's brow crinkled further, and a frown cut across her face. "Well, we don't have any other leads, but I still don't think we should be hasty. Phil—"

"Is biased, plain and simple. And if it's the Coliseum you're worried about, then I'll cover for you while you're gone."

"Are you sure you'll be fine on your own?" said Kairi. "Riku could always stay with you and keep working on his training."

"And then what?" Meg crossed her arms and arched her brow. "I hate to break it to you, sweetheart, but beating up some ceramics won't prepare him for whatever Hades has cooking in that fireplace of a brain." She circled around Riku, looking him up and down. "Give the man some credit. I hear he's had plenty of scrapes with the darkness…"

Man. Not 'boy' or 'kid'. Geez, was she really trying to butter him up? The worst part was, it was working, as Riku coughed and tugged on his collar. And yet, her words brought his thoughts elsewhere, and a new realization hit. "You know, something tells me the Organization won't wait for me to adjust to my sudden growth spurt. Twilight Town's already proof of that…"

Kairi huffed. "But Riku, that doesn't mean you should get careless!"

"And I won't. Promise." He moved in, taking her by the hand. "All I'm saying is that I'm gonna have to toughen up one way or another, and if the Underworld's really that rough, you'll want all hands on deck."

And that’s it. Briefly flustered, but quickly shifting gears to the Organization.

So I finished reading the message and then I replied, and then, well, things. Went downhill fast.

First: blatant aphobia. Second... a lot of personal projection and heavy bias. It was very uncomfortable to read. And as he went on, he went into GRAPHIC SUICIDE IDEATION and other disgusting things. All unsolicited. Without warning. And after I told him to slow down, he did not.

He just kept sending me message after message. And worst of all- he dragged in completely uninvolved people, who I would later learn have largely cut ties with him and were also repeatedly badgered and attacked by him. I was uncomfortable, so I did not respond. At the same time, he went BALLISTIC on my reviews page.

And he made a creepy dedication to me on his fanfics…

Furious beyond all comprehension, I replied.

As you can see... he ignored my requests to respect my boundaries, to slow down on his messaging, and to respect my identity. He kept spamming and spamming and self-deprecating, and being generally nasty, all while saying that if I blocked him, he’d keep reviewing me anyway (a sign of what was to come).

I was incredibly stressed. I just wanted it to stop, but with him threatening to keep engaging with me, I wasn’t sure if blocking would do any good.

So I ignored him, too frustrated to bother, and woke up to this:

I didn’t even say anything about his friends. I focused on his bad faith criticism of my work and his aphobia. I told him I was not okay with him dumping personal baggage at me unsolicited and that it made me uncomfortable. Being told my orientation isn’t real, REGARDLESS of intention, is still phobic. And yet he SOMEHOW translated this to me calling his friends mindless.

The kicker? Rem wants NOTHING to do with him. She deleted her account to get AWAY from him. She forwards the letters he sends to the police- or used to, anyway. Many of them she just throws away. And yet he fixates on her, puts her on this pedestal, and speaks as though she’s a goddess whose life revolves around him.

And all this... because I said I’m aromantic/asexual and this is just who I am, not a conscious choice. :’)

It just kept going, too. He even reached a point where he said, “There’s no such thing as aromantic. Period.” He never even CONSIDERED how hurtful such a thing is. And he still stubbornly believed I somehow was slandering people I’m sure are fine individuals. People he may have hurt.

Here are some more excerpts of his aphobia, quoted from a discord DM w/ Anima and one of the involved parties- as I no longer have access to the PM where he was attacking and insulting me. (That’s fine, tbh- I never want to talk to him again. This is mostly being added as further proof of his toxic views toward asexual and aromantic people.)

I'm not going to step back and reconsider how I interact with you, or anyone else who invalidates her or his personality and identity like you do. You're destroying yourself for no reason whatsoever, and I *do not and will not tolerate it when one of my friends hurts herself or hurts himself that badly.*

You don't have a different identity than me.

You're not different than me at all.

That you haven't so much as felt physically attracted to anyone since you became an adolescent means that you, unlike I myself, who was focused on my other issues so much that I didn't develop enough beliefs about physical attraction and other physical issues until I was fourteen so I needed to ignore physical attraction while still feeling it for a time until I stopped even feeling it, are a *far better person than me,* because you rejected the garbage - and that is assigning physical attraction and other physical issues too much significance when they have *none whatsoever* - that are physical attraction and other physical issues before you became an adolescent, so you didn't even need to go through the horror of physical attraction.

He phrased this like he was trying to be kind and supportive… while simultaneously making light of my orientation despite me making it VERY CLEAR that I was hurt by his words. He was condescending and gaslighting me.

just realized something.

You say you understand that physical attraction and 'other' 'physical' 'issues' aren't the same as romantic love, yet you believe that you're incapable of loving other people in all three of the possible ways that it's possible to love another person for no other reason that that you don't go through the horror of physical attraction.

First and foremost, saying that a person is incapable of loving someone who isn't family in both of the other two ways that it's possible to love someone who isn't family is *insanely dehumanizing and degrading in and of itself,* no matter *what* the reason is for saying that a person is incapable of loving a non-family member in both of the other two ways it's possible to love another person. *Everyone* is capable of all three forms of love, familial or romantic or friendship, and to say otherwise is to dehumanize and degrade yourself *at least* as horrifically as you did when you said that your identity is supposedly defined by whether or not you're physically attracted to others or pay attention to others in regards to 'other' 'physical' 'issues.' Because you're saying of yourself, and *far worse,* actually believing, you're not capable of giving others the same kind of love other human beings are.

You're not just referring to yourself as an 'it' or a 'thing' now. You're referring to yourself as though you're an *uncaring monster.*

Maybe he was well-intentioned. Plenty of “well-intentioned” people are aphobic. Asexual and aromantic people have to deal with their orientations being erased and belittled by allos on a regular basis. Either our orientation isn’t real, or we’re seen as cold and uncaring… because we don’t feel romantic or sexual attraction.

He would not budge. At that point, I was getting sick of him, so I blocked him.

Here are a few more excerpts that I did manage to save, however:

You said if you were capable of romantic love - which you *are* - or went through physical attraction or paid attention to 'other' physical garbage nonsense, you wouldn't be able to focus on what's important to you as much as you can now. That sounds like you're now saying the same insults about yourself that I was partially right and partially wrong about you saying about Rem, Amber, Croik, and I.

Even if you chose to romantically love someone, or chose to pay attention to physical attraction or 'other' physical garbage nonsense, you would still have the ability to focus on what's important to you, friendship and creativity, as much as you can now. Because you have free will and the ability to think for yourself and make your own decisions.

See what I said about why it was wrong to accuse Rem, Amber, Croik, and I of not having free will and the ability to think for ourselves and make our own decisions. The same objections that I brought up apply to you as well.

Again with the free will thing- which never came up. This is an exhaustingly recurring trend.

And since you're now saying that Rem, Amber, and Croik - and I - can focus less on friendship and creativity than you because they do believe in physical attraction and 'other' 'physical' 'issues' to an extent and go through physical attraction to males, they need another apology.

FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS

You did say that because Rem, Amber, and Croik believe in physical attraction and 'other' 'physical' 'issues' to an extent they can focus less on friendship and imagination than you. You said that, if you went through physical attraction and chose to care about 'other' 'physical' 'issues' you'd therefore be able to focus less on friendship and imagination, that the reason you can focus as much as you do on friendship and imagination is because you don't go through physical attraction and don't choose to care about 'other' physical garbage nonsense, and that if you hadn't supposedly been born a particular way you wouldn't be able to focus as much as you do on friendship and imagination. You made a blanket lying statement about all humans, saying that unless any human is supposedly born a particular way, you don't have the free will to choose to focus on friendship and imagination, or the capacity to focus on friendship and creativity, as much as people who don't go through physical attraction and who don't choose to care about 'other' 'physical' 'issues' have the ability to choose to, and the capability to do so once they've chosen to, focus on friendship and imagination.

Blanket statements about all humans include Rem and Amber and Croik - and you as well - and I myself, though that's not important.

No, Paul. I was only speaking about myself. Of course allosexual/alloromantic people can still have a healthy balance. I just personally feel that my orientation allows me more time to focus on my passions because I do not have any drive to pursue romantic relationships and all that that entails.

This is why I keep saying that you're dehumanizing Rem and Amber and Croik to the level of subhumans, and degrading them, and insulting them, et cetera - and why I keep saying you're putting yourself down the same ways. Because you keep making blanket lying statements about all humans, which associates Rem and Amber and Croik - and I myself, though that's not important - in them. You're not just talking about your own choices and the life you yourself have lived, you're making blanket statements about every single human on this planet.

Now do you understand why Rem and Amber and Croik still need three apologies?

At the same time, he was doing this same kinda crap on the KHInsider forums. You can see some of his topics here, here, and here. This was after I had blocked him, and hoo boy.

Putting words in my mouth and being passive aggressive about me on an unrelated forum. That’s the thing with Paul- if you let him into your life, he WILL talk about you to unrelated people, whether they want to hear it or not. People who cut ties with him years ago? He will namedrop them at random, even if it’s irrelevant.

He also made the same kind of free will arguments in those forum threads and a lot of the anti-attraction comments, too. Which, fine. I literally do not feel attraction- but no need to take it out on others.

He also started spamming me with anon reviews...

As you can see, a long ass tangent, dragging a friend of his into it, and STILL fixating on that small bit with Meg that was written in 2015. ._. He also was somehow convinced that he had a hand in creating AU fanfiction with his friend even though AU fanfiction has been around since the dawn of fandom. I mean no disrespect to this author- but once again he’s showing his tendency to drag others into matters that have nothing to do with him.

He kept spamming after that, but I wound up deleting most of it. After I posted Akai’s document on the KHInsider forums, he then left me alone... and switched targets to one of my friends, Anima. From here, I’ll delve into her testimony and proofs.

Anima’s Testimony:

I don’t even know where to begin with this guy. Oh wait, I know. Lacan Shinn started off as a reviewer who wanted to nitpick what I consider to be my magnum opus fic, Oathkeeper’s Awakening, that I have spent hours of my free time working on because I was so passionate about the characters and the story I wanted to tell. While I think he went overboard with nitpicking little things from ten chapters ago, whatever. I did ask him to lay off a bit with nitpicks because it is VERY difficult keeping up with every tiny little detail in the KH canon and also for the sake that I write fanfics as a hobby, not because I’m trying to publish a novel that I’m going to make money off of. If I make little errors, I don’t think it’s the end of the world, but he felt the need to do that, so I asked him to back off a bit.

That wasn’t the problem though.

The problem was that he left me alone for months, and then he came back and started reviewing my fic. Seemed innocent enough, but then he kept on spamming me with PMs and saying trash about my friend, MegaFlameHedge. Big mistake, dude. I wasn’t about to listen to someone trash talk about one of my friends and try to wrangle me and turn me against her, so I blocked him. And then he abused the anonymous review system and left me not one, not 2, but 17 ANONYMOUS REVIEWS THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH MY FIC! My review count when from 423 to 440 just from him alone!! I have since deleted the reviews before I could retain the screencaps of them because I did not think the situation would escalate this bad.

Also,

Lacan Shinn used another account to evade my block and send me a PM “apologizing”. Being the naive and nice person I am, thought it was genuine, so I unblocked him, and then he got worse. He continued to spam PMs to me even when I asked him not to, and they would be on topics I knew little to nothing about such as other people’s fanfics that I should read (which I am not going to do since I barely have time to read my friends’ fics), or going knee deep into Star Wars lore when I am a simple casual fan who featured it in your fic for the sole purpose of supporting the main plot. I asked him to back off, and he wouldn’t. I told him to stop PMing me, and he didn’t. I told him to stop reviewing my fic, and he didn’t. I told him I didn’t want him talking to me anymore and that I knew I wasn’t the only writer he harassed. I knew he harassed other writers like my friend Mega, as well as someone by the name of Akai Kitsune. It finally seemed like he was going to leave me and Mega alone when he was noticeably quiet for the end of January and most of February 2021.

But then recently, he came back with another anonymous review. The review itself is just a normal one giving constructive criticism on how I wrote two of the ships in my fic despite them being background ships and not important to the main plot. I screencapped it, but then deleted it. The content of the review isn’t what bothered me, it was the fact that I asked Lacan Shinn to leave me alone, and he didn’t. I want nothing to do with him, and he obviously doesn’t understand boundaries even when someone says it to his face.

And now, it’s worse than ever. He has purposefully made an account to not only evade my block, but to get around the anon reviews. He claims he’s going to keep doing that, and it is making me physically sick. It’s borderline stalkerish at this point and I can’t take it anymore. I don’t know what else I can do because he keeps on getting around and will not stop.

Lacan Shinn has said numerous times that I don’t have a right to tell him to leave me alone. Fuck him. I am in charge of my own personal life and who I associate with! If I don’t feel comfortable around people, I don’t associate with them! If someone tells you to leave them alone, then leave them the fuck alone. I don’t owe this asshole anything. I tried to avoid making a callout post because I am the last person who snitches on people, and I was worried about my fic getting spammed with trolls afterwards, but honestly, I couldn’t care less anymore. I write my fic for fun and for Lacan to tarnish the little joy I have left in the Kingdom Hearts fandom, then fuck it. I don’t care. I’ll finish the damn fic and then drop off the face of the fandom. It’s not worth my mental health.

Don’t associate with Lacan Shinn. Block him. Don’t let him into your life.

Keep in mind, this is AFTER she blocked him. After she REPEATEDLY told him to stop messaging her.

He refused to take no for an answer.

And spoke FOR Anima, when a concerned friend reached out and told him to stop. You can find a ton of other screencaps from Anima here. But I think by this point it’s crystal clear that this user is dangerous, and any KH authors (ESPECIALLY female ones) should block him IMMEDIATELY.

Fictionpress refuses to do anything about him. We’ve reported his signed reviews, but they remain visible. You can still find some of his signed reviews here, for instance.

So if you can, PLEASE spread this around. Given that he has been antagonizing Anima for months now, and has antagonized people like Akai even longer, this man is extremely unstable and dangerous, and the sooner you can cut off his ability to contact you, the better.

The Saga Continues:

UPDATE MARCH 2021:

So, Paul refuses to leave Anima alone and continues to create freaking alt accounts because he’s so invested in helping her “improve”. Here are some of his latest remarks.

Just to reiterate. Rem hates him and wants nothing to do with him. Akai has confirmed this- as she’s still in touch with Rem. So there’s a lot of delusional rambling going on here.

There was no betrayal. He is the one who keeps repeatedly harassing an author who wants nothing to do with him all because he wants to help her “improve as a writer,” and then he calls her childish when she wants him to go away (as seen below).

UPDATE MARCH 11 2021:

I’ve just been informed that Paul is now harassing a new author, with the complete lack of self-awareness as before. Here are the screenshots I was sent by a concerned party:

No, Rem is not in danger. Yet again, he’s projecting this idealized image of Rem in his head instead of accepting accountability.

Now, I will note: after yesterday’s messages, a user made a burner account and left multiple reviews warning about Paul’s behavior on his stories (and on Anima’s). This was not our doing- however, we stand by that Paul’s toxic behavior has reached a point where we can see why someone would do this. I do not believe in an eye for an eye, but at this point, Paul has proven he will not stop. He will not consider his own blame.

I am sending this evidence to Fanfiction.net support again in the hopes that they will act this time. This has to stop.

Evidently, he tried reporting my story… because two anonymous reviewers saw what had happened on my reviews page and wanted to give a warning. Bit hypocritical given that he left warnings about myself and Anima on Oathkeeper’s Awakening later that same day.

So two of my friends made well-meaning anon reviews. Of course I’m not going to delete them. A reviews page is often one of the first places people will look when curious about a new fic, and they wanted to clarify to newcomers why my page was in such disarray.

It’s funny, too, because throughout all this, I haven’t engaged with Paul’s stories at all. Did I report his harassment? Yes. But if someone decides to spam warnings on his stories- that’s out of my hands. That being said, if you’ve read this far, I really must insist on not engaging directly.

A Deeply Concerning Update:

Yeah. So, apparently he’s now thinking of her in a romantic light despite her cutting all contact. This was reported to me by one of my sources, who sent a larger screencap of the DM (some of which is already pictured above). I find this very worrying, given that he already has Rem’s address.

I just want to reiterate for the umpteenth time that Rem doesn’t want anything to do with Paul, and for as much as he goes on about how she has a free will of her own, he’s very quick to white knight for her and put words in her mouth. But more to the point- he’s trying to push the recipient here into trying to get me to delete two signed anon reviews… that are just there to warn people about what happened on my reviews page and about the toxic behavior that has already been showcased within this document.

It’s good that he wants to ignore me, but if he really wanted to do so, why did he lurk on my profile? The message in question was removed initially because I decided it wasn’t worth it. I only re-added it with more details after I was informed that he is still going on about me behind my back and acting like I was the one sending those anon reviews on burner accounts.

Honestly, at this point, this is getting extremely exhausting. I’m really just maintaining this doc on behalf of those who’re still being badgered by Paul and to shed light on his continued tendencies.

Personally, I’m fine. I’m working on music and minding my own business, but I do worry for Anima, who’s been struggling as a result of Paul’s refusal to respect boundaries (yet again in the above images). “She needs to learn what writing is all about.”

I think she knows what writing is all about. Wanting to cut ties with someone who did not respect her wishes does not mean she’s against crit. She just doesn’t want it from you, Paul.

Regrettably, I don’t think he’s going to stop at this point, but I, Anima, and our third party who provided the above screencaps have all submitted emails to Fanfiction support. The rest is in their hands.

And now he’s accusing Anima of plagiarism… over the name Sora backwards. Which has been used in plenty of other fanworks. Also, this is after the user in question blocked him, so yet again he’s block evading.

“Rem told me she’s been plagiarized.” Yeah, uh, about that…

More badgering Anima, and actually namedropping me. Classy. “Aros” is Sora backwards. It’s… not that original, and yet he’s going on an angry tirade about this.

So now he’s posting reviews that are allegedly from Rem several years ago… and it’s incredibly creepy that he has this saved.

This is well beyond obsession at this point. He talks in multiple reviews and PMs about how she’s spoken to him recently- even though this isn’t the case. It feels like wishful thinking, but like. Just move on. Try to be a better person. The lack of self-awareness at play is exactly why people continue cutting contact.

Listen. Learn. That’s all it boils down to.

Here’s a fun one. He’s talking about me. :’) And lying about my actions and intentions, because of course he is.

...Good lord, he’s lying about Rem and saying that she loves him. This is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.

I redacted a part of this because it goes into personal detail about some uncomfortable topics involving a friend of his.

More of those aforementioned manipulation tactics at play. What fun!

Honestly, this is extremely alarming. If he even has her phone number, is Rem even safe from him? This is legitimately unsettling. The denial. The delusions. Claiming that Rem is his “first love”. I am extremely worried for Rem’s safety now.

At this point, he needs to just… leave her alone, but I doubt he will. From all the testimonies I have received from a myriad of people, one thing is crystal clear: the Rem Paul obsesses over is a figment of his imagination. Likely a coping mechanism. He lies and lies to himself that she cares, and now, loves him. It’s rather obvious in the way he publicly gloats about her on various platforms to total strangers.

MORE New Testimony:

Yet another person came forward soon after the previous witness, Griselda, reached out. It would seem that Paul’s behavior really does spread far and wide. It makes me wonder just how many others have been caught up in this sticky web of abuse.

Paul’s Retaliation:

Paul is on the warpath. He still refuses to accept his own accountability. Griselda told me that he’s very open about his parents- even mentioning it on public reviews pages. Ergo, what we have shown here is nothing he’s been secretive about. The funny thing is, I didn’t even show the DMs he had sent me where he goes into GRAPHIC DETAIL about his personal life. I only captured the messages he sent me during his toxic meltdowns alongside the aphobia and him dragging his friends into the matter.

Regarding Rem - A Summary:

Cross-referencing Akai’s doc, we can gather a few things. First, Paul is extremely possessive of Rem and has repeatedly belittled her and tried to strip her of her agency time and time again. He has her physical address and would send her unwanted video games and letters and when she wanted his return address so she could send them back, he fought tooth and nail not to do so.

When Rem blocked him, he came up with all sorts of reasons for why she “really” did it, refusing to look the truth in the eye. And YEARS after Akai stopped talking to him, would send email after email trying to get her to reconnect or to reconnect with Rem for him. He also stalked their livejournals.

We have already established that he has an eerie fixation with Rem, right down to saving tons of reviews from her now abandoned account and posting them to Anima’s review page. But Rem hasn’t spoken to Paul since 2007.

“No matter *how* hard you two keep endeavoring to push me away, I'm going to keep coming back, because I know you two don't genuinely *want* to stop talking to me and care about me and would be happier if you were talking to me, “

It’s been almost 14 years.

“Once someone becomes my friend, he or she *never* stops being my friend. “

And look at this horrible view.

“you wanted to try to drive me away from the two of you again so I'd put those lessons into play with other people, but not the two of you, because you were convinced, since I'd suffered so much when talking to the two of you, I'm better off not talking to the two of you no matter what I learned.”

He literally cannot fathom that people would get fed up with him and want to cut ties. It’s always “oh, you just didn’t want me to worry about you,” or “you were protecting me.”

He repeatedly calls her sensitive and acts like he has to protect her, thereby insulting her agency as a person and assuming she needs him. She does not.

“So I'm not going to get around [Rem's Real Name]'s Blocks. I'll use other means to prove to her no matter how hard she attempts to push me away, I'm not going anywhere.”

“I told her I'd wait forever, for the rest of my life, for the ability to talk to her again and be the friend I should have been years ago.”

“ I recognize the positive facets it means she gave up all that, such as how it shows she still cares about me even though we're not talking and after all these years have passed, and such as how it shows how much she cares about me”

Over a decade of silence… yet he still insists she cares. He lies openly about her contacting him, lies that she loves him… and uses her as a shield to deflect criticism towards his toxic behavior.

Rem gave Akai permission to publicize the emails in her doc, but at the moment would rather not give direct testimony, as she’s trying to move on from her life the best she can with Paul refusing to respect her boundaries. Out of everyone here, I feel she’s suffered the most because unlike the rest of us, he has her address. Her physical address.

14 years is a long time. People change. The Rem Paul fantasizes about is not the same Rem that exists in the present. That’s what makes this all so disturbing.

Rem’s Testimony:

Rem has come forward to us with emails and testimony. You can find a thorough account here, including many of the emails Paul has sent her.

I sincerely doubt Paul will listen. He’ll probably continue to make up excuses, but this is definitive proof that Rem is not on his side. She has even included evidence that he’s sent her letters, proof from the USPS, this is all incredibly thorough. Because of the nature of Paul, please be wary of the content within. Many contain explicit abuse, and mentions of sexual assault as well as blatant evidence of his stalking behaviors.

Yes, these documents also contain personal information, but much of it has been redacted in terms of identifiable information, and these messages are included so that we can demonstrate his toxicity towards Rem, just as he has been toxic toward us.

We would like to thank Rem for her contributions. Given Paul’s obsession, this was extremely important.

Paul’s Emails to Rem:

Rem has also told me that he’s now going after Megumi. He also refuses to look at the testimony.

The irony is that he’s dreaming of Rem protecting him… when Rem is ALSO providing me with further email evidence. His denial is extremely baffling.

4/5 Update:

Rem has deleted her email address to distance herself from Paul. Paul thinks that we hacked her, because he cannot fathom the possibility that Rem is sick of his shit. I’m not surprised at this point, because he habitually has a way of twisting things to fit his warped perception of reality. (When I told her about his aphobia, we both had a pretty good laugh at the absurdity of his reasoning, tbh. Specifically at his insistence that I apologize to her… for my orientation. Yeah.

Rem is cool, and if there’s one good thing that came from this situation, it was meeting more people who have this shared experience).

She also sent a few more emails before deactivating the account.

He went into detail here about the abuse- leaving it out for now. If it is genuine, that is unfortunate, but based on conversations with Akai and Rem, I have reason to doubt the severity of the abuse. They both told me he’s prone to both lies and hyperbole, and a refusal to admit his own wrongdoing in a situation. And once Paul told me that his mother “abused” him by hiding postage stamps from him because he wouldn’t do the dishes.

Frankly, I suspect his mother hid them out of concern for Rem’s safety. She’s probably just as unsettled by his obsession as the rest of us. And even in the event that the details he divulged were true, that still doesn’t excuse his behavior or the rest of the message…

Specifically, the bit about dreaming about Rem protecting him again.

The next email dealt with some personal information about his RL situation that isn’t as pressing as, well, these specific snippets.

Between this was a long ramble about his health that really has no bearing on this document, but does tie into the section below...

He also left a bad faith review on Anima’s fic that randomly mentioned Rem even though she had no bearing on the story. And that’s the thing- Paul just… does this. Drags unrelated people into everything without their consent, and that is why we figure it best to lay these things bare.

More concerning, though, is his obsession with trying to reach Rem on the phone. It genuinely feels like he is way too dependent on someone who hates his guts. And moreover- given that it has been 14 years since she spoke to him, he doesn’t even know her as she is now. He’s latching onto this idealized image based on a person who no longer exists.

The other email Rem sent was just him talking about his own fic and doesn’t really merit inclusion here. Instead, I’ll leave a screencap of the offending review on Oathkeeper’s Awakening.

I’ve also been informed that he’s harassing another user, but said user has opted not to get involved.

Akai also made several updates to her document, so feel free to read that if you want more context to some of these latest updates.

More Talks With Rem and Akai:

I’m going to include screenshots of a chat I had with Rem and Akai on another site (which shall remain unnamed for their privacy). I have gotten Rem’s permission to publish this in light of one of Paul’s friends trying to help him in getting the document taken down. We have tried to reason with this friend and explain our case- and we have been repeatedly ignored, despite the mountains of documentation proving Paul’s abuse.

I have made a backup of this doc on another site. While I doubt it will be necessary, I want to cover my bases, as Paul and his friend are both trying to take our documents down despite the abuse documented here.

Closing Statement:

With about 120 pages of extensive screenshots and testimony, it’s plain to see that Paul is a dangerous individual to interact with. Once you let him in, he will not let go. Akai and I are fortunate that he has stopped contacting us, but I suspect that’s ONLY because we took direct action against him by publicizing his harassment. He has me blocked on Fanfiction.net, and hasn’t messaged Akai in some months. If this changes, it will be added to the document.

However, at the present, Fanfiction.net has still yet to respond to our reports.

So what can we do now?

I have a few simple requests. First, if you can share this document on social media and tweet to Fictionpress asking them to stop ignoring harassment on their platform, it’d be most appreciated.

Second, if you happen to stumble across Anima’s fic (Oathkeeper’s Awakening), she’d really appreciate genuine reviews on her story. Paul’s spam has flooded so much of her fic’s reviews page, and ideally we’d like to counteract that.
